All Club property and equipment is for member use only and their accompanied guest.

NEW MEMBERS MUST QUALIFY BEFORE GETTING ACCESS

Ames Rifle & Pistol Club includes a variety of facilities: 

  • Clubhouse

  • 300-yard outdoor range (heated shooting enclosure) 

  • 100-yard outdoor range 

  • 50-foot indoor range 

  • Archery Range with stand and 3d targets 

  • Reactive Pistol Range 

  • Electronic Key'd gate

Club Rules for The Range
Indoor Facilities

  • The hours of operation are twenty-four (24) hours a day, 363 days a year, except during work details, scheduled shooting events and during club general meetings. Indoor range is not open Easter Sunday or Memorial Day.

  • Lights must be turned on when shooting unless match dictates. 

  • Exhaust fans must be turned on while any person is on the range. 

  • If you are the last person to leave the range/clubhouse, turn off all the lights and exhaust fans. 

  • No smoking or eating is allowed on the indoor range. 

  • No Pellets or BBs Allowed.

  • All socializing is to be confined to the meeting area. The indoor range is for shooting only. 

  • All other general rules and regulations apply. 

Firearms:

  • Handguns up to .45 

  • .22 rim fire rifles 

  • Air rifles/pistols (with pellets only) 

  • No other rifles or shotguns are allowed. 

  • Black powder is not allowed. 

  • No sub guns or carbines in any caliber

Ammunition:

  • Lead, alloy, jacketed, semi-jacketed bullets are allowed. 

  • No steel core bullets of any caliber are allowed. 

  • Handgun caliber ammunition only up to .45 

  • Magnum loads are allowed. 

  • Armor piercing, incendiary and tracer ammunition is prohibited. 

  • No BB's are allowed. Pellets are allowed. 

  • No center fire rifle ammunition, shotgun, shot shell or slugs are allowed.

Targets:

  • Paper targets only 

  • No targets larger than 24"x 24". No targets larger than 12"X12" for short wall 

  • Targets must be set all the way to the backstop, 50 feet from the shooting bench at all times. If you need to shoot at a distance less than 50 feet you must shoot OUTSIDE.

  • No bottleneck cartridges allowed inside, at the pistol area at 100 yards or the steel/combat range.

Outdoor Facilities

  • Clubhouse and maintenance sheds. Plenty of parking. 

  • Heated enclosure on 300-yard range.  Members shoot from 50 yards to 300 yards. 

  • Inside the 300-yard enclosure. 100-yard shooting enclosure. 

  • Pistol, rifle and shotgun target stands from 5 yards to 100 yards.  Trap may also be shot on this range.

  • Range has many metal reactive targets and silhouettes.

  • Archery target stands & 3D targets. 

  • Reactive pistol range.  Reactive metal targets are set up from 15-50 yards.  Pistols up to .45 caliber and shotguns with shot (no slugs) are allowed on this range.

Precision Airgun Range

   Range Safety Rules for the AIRGUN RANGE ONLY.  

  • General Safety GuidelinesEnsuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants is our highest priority. Please review and adhere to the following rules at all times while using the Precision Airgun Range.

  • Hearing ProtectionModern Airguns emit suppressed sounds, typically not harmful to hearing. Hearing protection is recommended for Airguns exceeding 85dB (examples: police siren, train passing, shop vac, blender). According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), 85dB for 8 hours is the maximum exposure level to prevent hearing injury.

  • Eye ProtectionEye protection is recommended. Safety glasses protect against debris, escaping gases, ricochets, and target fragmentation. 

  • Permitted Projectiles - Frangible ammunition  such as lead BBs, lead  pellets, and tin projectiles. Only frangible airsoft ammunition is allowed. Projectiles must not exceed .25-caliber.

  • Prohibited ProjectilesAny projectile greater than .25-caliber. Steel BBs, steel shot, non-frangible plastic airsoft BBs, paintballs, explosive or combustible ammunition. No intentional dieseling. Do not reuse projectiles.  

  • Approved Airgun PowerplantsSpring piston, Gas piston, Pump, CO2, Green Gas, Pre-charged Pneumatic (PCP), Battery-powered

  • Airgun Use and Range BoundariesAirguns discharging .25-caliber projectiles or smaller ones are permitted throughout the Airgun range. Airguns with projectiles greater than .25-caliber are restricted to the indoor range, 100-yard range, and plinking firearm ranges.

  • Cease Fire ProceduresDuring a cease fire, all Airguns must be made safe by de-cocking, unloading, or removing the magazine, and clearing the chamber. No one may go downrange for target changes, equipment reset, or inspection until all Airguns are confirmed safe.

  • Compressed Air Cylinder SafetyConduct regular visual inspections of compressed air cylinders per the manufacturer's recommendations. Treat all compressed air cylinders, tubes, and tanks with respect and caution. Never over-pressurize compressed air cylinders.

  • General EquipmentAll sights are permitted. Be familiar with the mechanical and handling characteristics of your Airgun.

  • Safe Handling PracticesTreat every Airgun as if it is loaded. Handle your Airgun with the same respect as a firearm. Horseplay is strictly prohibited. Always keep the muzzle pointed downrange. Cock and load your Airgun only when ready to shoot. Be aware of your target and what is near or beyond it. Regularly clean your equipment.

  • Shooting ProceduresShoot only from designated stations and positions as posted. Static shooting only; dynamic shooting is not permitted.

  • Allowed TargetsPaper, plastic, reactive, metal, ballistic clay or gel, and other non-shattering materials. Dispose of or remove all targets after use to maintain range cleanliness. Do not leave targets on the range.

  • Prohibited Targetsor any items at the range; remove them upon departure. Glass, Shatter blast clays of any type, Containers with liquid or similar materials, Food, Wildlife

  • Range Courtesy and CleanlinessAlways be respectful and courteous to fellow range users. Assist others when appropriate. Do not leave trash or debris on the range. Place trash in the dumpster in front of the clubhouse or take it with you.

  • Range Use and MembershipCease fire called on firearm ranges does not apply to the Airgun range. Shooters must be club members or accompanied by a club member and follow all firearm range safety rules. Members are authorized to use the Airgun range under the same guest and family rules that apply to all other club ranges. 

  • Rule ViolationsViolation of any of these rules may result in suspension or revocation of range privileges.
